W Scottsdale: New Suites, ‘Super Week’ Events, and LGBTQ+ Inclusive
Planning a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona? Well, if you’re looking for an LGBTQ-welcoming property, then you should consider checking into the W Scottsdale. It’s conveniently located in Scottsdale’s Entertainment District, which features fine dining, shopping, nightclubs, and premiere golf.
Even though we recommended a different W property on our list of queer-friendly spas, you’re sure to get an equally pampered experience at the AWAY Spa at the W Scottsdale. Be sure to check out the hotel’s special Sip and Shop, Seasonal, Away Spa offers and packages, too. Indulge and treat yourself!
New Penthouse Suites
In February, W Scottsdale will unveil five new penthouse suites, expanding the hotel’s existing collection of 12 penthouse suites to 17 suites and a total of 241 rooms property-wide. The new custom suites include a one-bedroom Fantastic Suite, and two Extreme WOW Suites and two WOW Suites that feature two bedrooms.
The suites range in size from 1,000 to 2,700 square feet, and feature private balconies, en-suite laundry, hardwood floors, full kitchens, a full bar, separate living and dining spaces, a walk-in closet, and more! An homage to the local Southwest culture is present in the new suites’ décor and bursts of turquoise, red, and brown accents.
‘Super Week’ Events
Also in February, W Scottsdale will host a lineup of events leading up to the Super Bowl, which will go down 30 miles away at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. From Wednesday, February 8 to Sunday, February 12, scheduled events will include a “Suits & Sneakers” fashion show emceed by NFL reporter Jay Glazer and a performance by rapper Rick Ross; the Pepsi Zero Sugar cocktail mixology experience at the hotel’s Cottontail Lounge, Friday Brews event, Skybox Sunday Viewing Party for guests, and more!
Its Mission to Amplify Underrepresented Voices
W Scottsdale, among other W Hotels, has stood as a proud partner with the NOH8 Campaign, a charitable organization whose mission is to promote marriage, gender, and human equality through education, advocacy, social media, and visual protest. The organization was founded in response to Proposition 8 being passed in California on November 4, 2008, which amended the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest featuring subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with “NOH8” painted on one cheek in protest.
Last October, W Scottsdale, in partnership with the NOH8 Campaign, hosted the first installment of Activ8 Against H8 presented by NASCAR. The event featured a panel discussion of heroes, activists, and icons who aim to empower individuals to use their influence for positive social change and offer a space for friends and allies to come together. Activ8 Against H8 presented by NASCAR was designed to celebrate and encourage activism by inspiring individuals into taking action.
Another brand-exclusive platform among W Hotels, including W Scottsdale, is the Queer Me Out speaker event featuring an engaging panel discussion from various local and national LGBTQ+ leaders. Queer Me Out highlights the importance of improving mental health in the LGBTQ+ community and offers a space for friends and allies to come together in solidarity.
