Spain’s Equality Ministry Launches Body-Positive Summer Campaign

We said it when we launched last year – Vacationer is a queer publication that won’t force our readers to be beach-body ready. We’re all about body-positive spaces and traveling just the way you are. That means you should navigate the world as your true authentic self, which includes those voluptuous curves and extra padding. We love it all and so should you!

Now, a new body-positive campaign in Spain is touting that same message. Spain’s Equality Ministry has launched the “Summer is ours too” promotional campaign to encourage women of all shapes and sizes to head to the beach. The promotional image features five women of different shapes and sizes, including a woman who had a mastectomy topless.

And we obviously love the campaign’s tagline, “Enjoy it [Summer] how, where and with whomever you want.” YAASSS!! We’re here for this long overdue inclusive messaging.

“All bodies are beach bodies,” said Ione Belarra, the Social Rights Minister for Spain. “All bodies are valid and we have the right to enjoy life as we are, without guilt or shame. Summer is for everyone!”

Many Twitter users loved the campaign and also shared their thoughts using the hashtag, #ElVernanoEsNuestro. In a tweet, Antonia Morillas, the head of the Spanish Women’s Institute and the organization behind the initiative, said, “Diverse bodies, free of gender stereotypes, occupying all spaces. Summer also belongs to us. Free, equal, and diverse.”

We’re already planning a trip to a beach in Spain now! How about you?! Check out our list of gay beaches and gender-neutral swimwear for some body-positive inspiration!
