Queer and Nonbinary Celebrities Embrace Haunted Travel Niche
Haunted travel continues to be a popular niche. Just look at the programming on Travel Channel and you’ll notice Sam Brown’s idyllic weekend getaways and Andrew Zimmern’s bizarre food crawls around the world have been replaced with paranormal and haunted shows such as Destination Fear, Ghost Nation, and Portals to Hell.
In a recent interview with the New Yorker, actress Kristen Stewart – already receiving Oscar buzz for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the movie Spencer – is developing a gay ghost-hunting reality show with a friend. The Twilight star described the show as a “paranormal romp in a queer space.” Stewert is also developing another TV series with Dylan Meyer, her fiancée and longtime girlfriend. No word yet on whether it’s a haunted reality show, too.
Stewart isn’t the only LGBTQ+ celeb to embrace the paranormal genre. Popstar Demi Lovato embarks on a road trip in search of extraterrestrial life on Unidentified with Demi Lovato, a four-part TV show currently streaming on Peacock.
On the show, Lovato recalls her personal “close encounter” experience in Joshua Tree National Park and sets out on a journey with her sister, Dallas Lovato, and her best friend, Matthew Scott Montgomery to search for definitive answers to some of the biggest questions about extraterrestrial life.
