Out Loud Beer Project Launched in Oregon

Queer beer connoisseurs can now grab a cold one and support queer-owned businesses thanks to the Out Loud Beer Project.

10 Barrel BrewingGoldspot Brewing of Denver, and Everywhere Is Queer (EIQ) officially kick off the Out Loud Beer Project, an all-new collaborative, industry-wide brewing series dedicated to supporting queer-owned businesses and giving back to the LGBTQ+ community.  The three organizations combined their talent and vision for this project to develop the first beer collab, a limited edition Out Loud, a Hazy IPA. Award-winning Tonya Cornett of 10 Barrel and Kelissa Hieber and Sav Starling of Goldspot Brewing joined forces to create the new recipe and brew.

This first iteration of the Out loud Beer Project, brewed in Bend, Oregon, will be available exclusively at the Bend and Portland brewery locations, while supplies last. It will be on tap, and available in 12 or 16 oz. cans.

“I hope the Out Loud Beer Project will raise awareness of the mission of queer-owned businesses and nonprofits that should be heard. I launched Everywhere Is Queer five months ago and knowing that I am already making a beer with 10 Barrel in Bend truly makes my little queer heart so happy. I couldn’t be more grateful for 10 Barrel’s support with this campaign—wanting to make the beer and more,” said Charlie Sprinkman, founder of Everywhere is Queer. “We are in this together at the end of the day, so creating this campaign is just building our whole community of allies and queer folks that much stronger.”

While 10 Barrel helped to launch the Out Loud Beer Project this Pride month, the series will continue year-round and rotate among other breweries and communities to support queer-owned businesses and non-profit organizations. The brands feel it is important to celebrate Pride every day, not just throughout the month of June.

“This incredible collaboration was born thanks to the power of social media when someone was seeking a queer-friendly brewery in Bend. Goldspot and EIQ tagged 10 Barrel in the comment, and the rest was history,” said Moo Eakin, digital marketing manager at 10 Barrel. “We’re proud to be a part of this movement and encourage other breweries to follow suit.”

Twenty-five percent of proceeds from the 10 Barrel Out Loud Hazy IPA will be evenly donated between Everywhere Is Queer—a new world map of queer-owned businesses— and OUT Central Oregon. To continue carrying out the project, EIQ and Goldspot are actively seeking additional brewery partners to carry on the fun and collaboration throughout the year. Interested breweries may apply on the Out Loud Brew Project website

“I am so excited for this collaboration for so many reasons! I have always wanted to use these unique and dynamic South African hops, but also being able to collaborate with Tonya who has been such a force in the industry for so long is honestly a humbling experience,” said Hieber, brewmaster at Goldspot. “The Out Loud beer was a perfect opportunity for us to grow Goldspot’s company mission on a national front and are jazzed to be working with one of our favorites, Everywhere Is Queer.”
