Left On Tenth is a Must-See Manhattan Romantic Comedy
From the writer of You’ve Got Mail comes a slice of Broadway that explores late-in-life love, against the odds—and a West Village backdrop.
Based on Delia Ephron’s bestselling memoir of the same name, Left on Tenth is a warm and witty new play is directed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman and stars Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Peter Gallagher (Grace and Frankie).
The cast also includes Peter Francis James (Funny Girl) and Kate MacCluggage (Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret) each doubling essential supporting characters with aplomb. The company also includes Thomas Michael Hammond and Sarah Grace Wilson as understudies and…we don’t want to spoil the surprises, but if you are a dog lover, you will be richly rewarded.
So what’s the plot? When she least expects it, Delia, beloved novelist and screenwriter of You’ve Got Mail, reconnects with a man from her past (who she failed to remember) and falls into her own implausible romantic comedy—until it turns out to be the most reliable thing in her life, unlike Verizon service, for example.
What starts with an unlikely spark and a trip down curiosity lane blossoms into a genuine love story that seems to defy all odds in the face of life’s challenges, especially in middle age and in a big city like New York. We loved the way Left on Tenth centered on a woman discovering how to embrace the unpredictable and open her heart again—and learn to trust a random guy from the other side of the country who may just be too good to be true…
The production features lovely, versatile, and atmospheric scenic design by two-time Tony Award winner Beowulf Boritt. Costume design is by Tony Award nominee Jeff Mahshie, and the crisp and evocative lighting design is by Tony Award winner Ken Billington and Itohan Edoloyi.
This is a quintessentially New York dramedy; it’s as delicious and comforting as a big bowl of marinara at Barbetta or a dirty vodka martini at Sardi’s. If you’re in the Big Apple this month, go see it. You won’t be disappointed by this heartfelt and charming play, more than ably directed by Stroman and relished by seasoned performers Gallagher and Margulies (she plays gay news anchor Laura Peterson on The Morning Show)—they both are familiar faces on the small screen, but just as at home in the theater.
Left on Tenth will hold performances Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings with a special schedule that includes four matinees throughout the week on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
