Horseplay for a Cause at the Annual International Gay Polo Tournament
If you’re looking for a serious LGBTQ+ polo competition, then you should consider planning a trip to the International Gay Polo Tournament scheduled for April 6 – 9, 2023 at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida – a little more than an hour’s drive from Fort Lauderdale.
Usually held the same weekend as the first round of the U.S. Open Polo Championship, the annual tournament draws top Gay Polo League players and spectators from around the globe for a weekend of fun horseplay! It’s also an event meant to generate awareness, highlights LGBTQ+ athletes, and create an environment for them to safely learn, grow and excel in their sport.
Schedule of Events
Thursday, April 6 – VIP Reception for players, sponsors, and VIP Guests at Nomad
Friday, April 7: GPL Polotini presents WIGSTOCK! In the Cherry Knoll Farm VIP Tent
Saturday, April 8: GPL Final Matches at National Polo Center – Isla Carroll Field West
- Founders Cup: Match at 1 pm

Tickets are available for purchase here.
The four-day event also includes an epic tailgating scene with spectators, creating elaborate theme parties and showing off their creatively competitive sides. It’s not uncommon to stumble into a pop-up salon where the workers are in drag, a nightclub with pumping DJ beats, or a wedding chapel where actual ceremonies are performed. No theme is over the top! So, even if you’re not a GPL player, you can enjoy the pre-competition tailgating before watching the tense action on the field.
As one of the most highly anticipated events of the equestrian season, the International Gay Polo Tournament’s main priority remains to raise money in support of diversity and inclusion initiatives for other LGBTQ+ organizations.
