FabStayz Wants You to Honk in Support of an LGBTQ+ March
What happens when you’re an LGBTQ+ person living in Florida, where recent anti-LGBTQ legislation and even travel warnings throughout the state have caused you and your community distress? You honk!
THe Drag queen flight attendants, known as the FabStayz Flight Crew, are the brand ambassadors for Tampa Bay-based FabStayz, an LGBTQ+ travel and accommodations platform that highlights welcoming, safe, and inclusive spaces. Well, they just launched their Honk if You Support Drag Queens public service announcement, a video to promote a fundraiser to support the Drag 2 Talle March on the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee.
Though the details of the Drag 2 Talle March on the Capitol are tight-lipped for security reasons. Rumor is that it’s scheduled for this month, and the queer community in Florida is making plans. Buses hosting drag queen entertainers, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and allies from around the state of Florida will be descending on the Capitol to tell their stories, and to be heard.
Participants from across the state – including Orlando, Daytona Beach, Jacksonville, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Gainesville, Tampa, St Petersburg, Fort Myers, Naples, and Pensacola – are expected to be well represented.
Honk if You Support Drag Queens was filmed in downtown Tampa, Florida, Historic Ybor City, and along the mansion-lined Bayshore Boulevard, the longest continuous sidewalk in the United States. It stars 2023 Tampa Pride Grand Marshall Esme Russell and real flight attendant, when not in drag, Liquor Mini.
FabStayz’s core mission is to address the rise of anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment and the safety concerns for members of the LGBTQ+ community, so aligning with the Drag 2 Talle March on the Capitol is a natural fit. Legislative Director and Senior Policy Counsel of the ACLU of Florida, Kara Gross responded to Florida’s Senate Bill 1438, said, “SB 1438 is a blatant attempt to erase drag performers and silence the LGBTQ+ community.”
“Our platform was created so all members of our community representing every letter of the acronym LGBTQ+ would feel safe and our safety is being brought into question here in our home state of Florida and around the globe,” said Robert Geller, the founderr of FabStayz.
In support of the statewide rally efforts, FabStayz is donating $1 for every YouTube video view, and up to $500 to “Drag 2 Talle” for bus and travel expenses.
