Explore NYC’s Immersive Art Scene During Hotel Week

New York City, one of the queer capitals of the world, announces the return of Hotel Week.

Just in time for the New Year, New York City Tourism has announced the return of Hotel Week from January 3 to February 12. Take advantage of a 23% savings at some of the most celebrated properties around the Big Apple. The promotion coincides with NYC Restaurant Week, Broadway Week, and Must-See Week, all taking place from January 17 through February 12, 2023. Participating restaurants, shows, and attractions have not been revealed yet but plans to announce are set for January 10.

While NYC is famous, of course, for its restaurants and theater productions, you don’t need me to tell you there are a million things to do in the city that never sleeps. So, I would still encourage Vacationers to come early in January. Take advantage of the ’slow’ season and enjoy the city and its cultural institutions with reduced crowding.

One thing you can do that combines trademark New York City flair while avoiding the blustering winter cold is to engage with some of the immersive art installations around the city. This is a trend that has steadily grown not only in New York but around the world, and naturally, NYC is home to some of the best exhibits out there:

INTER_ is one such exhibit offering a sequence of installations and digital creations for visitors to immerse themselves in a hyper-sensory environment where their presence becomes a participation in the creation of art. Based on practices of inquiry into the nature of mind and the logic of modern physics, INTER_’s storytelling is rooted in the manifestation of an individual’s journey through the classic elements of earth, wind, fire, and water — and a key fifth element: ether, which represents the awareness of the mind itself.

Monet’s Garden invites you to go on a 360-degree journey through the history and work of one of the greatest and most influential painters of all time.  Using state-of-the-art multimedia and multi-sensory technology, you can dive into the Father of Impressionism’s paintings and get a glimpse into the inner workings of his mind.  Explore his studio and learn about his life, struggles, and inspirations before stepping into the scenery of Monet’s Garden where you’ll be invited to walk across the bridge and enter the paintings through interactive projections, and finally float among the waterlilies in a completely immersive installation of Monet’s most famous work.

Sleep No More presents Shakespeare’s classic Scottish tragedy through the lens of suspenseful film noir. Audiences move freely through a transporting world at their own pace, choosing their own path through the story, immersed in the most unique theatrical experience in New York. The show takes place at The McKittrick Hotel.

Completed in 1939, the hotel was intended to be New York City’s finest and most decadent luxury hotel of its time. Six weeks before opening, and two days after the outbreak of World War II, however, the legendary hotel was condemned and left locked, permanently sealed from the public. Until now…

These three shows are but a taste of what is going on in the NYC art scene. So, what are you waiting for?! Get 2023 started off right with a trip to the Big Apple and take advantage of the savings on accommodation on account of Hotel Week.
