Christina Aguilera to headline EuroPride 2023 in Malta

If you haven’t heard the news, Malta, voted the world’s most LGBTQ-friendly travel destination, will host EuroPride 2023. And there’s more news! The headliner for Official EuroPride 2023 Concert will be none other than Grammy Award-winning international superstar, Christina Aguilera. And if you miss her as the headliner for NYC Pride this month, you have another option to catch her on stage!

Malta, the hidden gem of the Mediterranean, will host EuroPride 2023, from September 7-17, 2023. Diversity is ingrained in Maltese culture, and this is why Malta has made significant progress toward becoming an LGBTQ+-friendly destination. This has also been reinforced by anti-discrimination laws introduced in the Maltese Constitution in 2014.

The main events for EuroPride Valleta 2023 include the opening ceremony on Thursday, September 7, 2023, and the Pride March and FREE Concert with Christina Aguilera set for Sunday, September 16. All the festivities wrap up on September 17.

Most people know Aguilera for her powerful vocals and captivating performances, the multi-platinum singer is also known for her unwavering support for the LGBTIQ+ community. The Official EuroPride Valletta 2023 Concert aims to celebrate diversity, equality, and inclusivity and bring together people from across Europe and beyond in a vibrant show of solidarity, and the “Beautiful” singer is an excellent choice as the headliner. Fans can look forward to a rousing performance as Aguilera performs her chart-topping hits, from “Genie In a Bottle” and “What A Girl Wants”  to “Dirrty” and “Fighter,” for the first time in Malta.

Maria Azzopardi, President of Allied Rainbow Communities (ARC), shared her excitement, “The Official EuroPride Valletta 2023 Concert with Christina Aguilera will be another highlight, after the Pride March in Valletta, which brings the LGBTIQ+ community together under the motto ‘Equality from the Heart’.”

She continues: “This event is a powerful moment of unity and celebration that shows the immense progress our community has made towards equality. We are delighted that Christina Aguilera, a true icon and ally, will be headlining the concert.”

Additionally, Pride Week will include a variety of other events, also coordinated by the ARC, with the involvement of other NGOs, individuals, and partner organizations. These events will center around Queer arts and culture.

Nicholas Bugeja of Allied Rainbow Communities of Malta shared, “We shall be partnering with different artists and performers to offer a cultural & artistic program of various genres, including exhibitions, theater, cabaret shows, film, and literary arts throughout the week. The emphasis of the program will be on offering a platform to LGBTIQ+ artists such as drag, burlesque, theater, and other forms of performing arts.”

Three conferences will also be held – A Human Rights Conference,  LGBTIQ+ at Work Conference, and another focused on Interfaith Dialogue. A Pride Village in the Capital will be set up three days prior leading up to the Pride March, which will host a number of stands for local and international organizations to display their work, sell merchandise and act as information points for the community. The village will also act as a space for socialization and community building.

The EuroPride March is a family-friendly march where different human rights organizations, governmental entities, and partners will be invited to march with us. A number of floats, performances, giveaways, and speeches will also take place. The March will finish at the Granaries in Floriana, with the Pride concert as the grand finale. Throughout the week, a number of venues will be opening their doors for a number of community events ranging from speak-easy socials, beach/poolside parties, and club nights.

In addition to Pride, Malta also has so much more to offer its Queer visitors and guests! With 300 days of sunshine per year, beautiful beaches and hidden bays, countless cultural landmarks (three of them being UNESCO World Heritage Sites) from over 7,000 years of history and great places for social events, and a vibrant nightlife, Malta is the perfect LGBTQ+ leisure, business and culture destination, which also makes it the perfect destination for a Pride event!
