Celebrate Pride at Six Flags

Much in the vein of Gay Days at Disney, certain Six Flags locations will be hosting Pride-themed events this coming September.

Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia California will host its annual Out on the Mountain event on September 9.  This is a private event, meaning no season passes, memberships or regular tickets will be honored that evening; only specially purchased Out on the Mountain tickets will be accepted. The park will close to the general public between 6 pm and 12 am so queer thrill-seekers and their allies can enjoy reduced lines and wait times. A portion of the ticket sales will benefit the LGBTQ Center of Long Beach this year. The event will feature three DJs to keep the party jumping and special performances. Prior years’ talent includes Drag Race Royalty Alaska, Trinity the Tuck and Raven.

On September 10, Six Flags Great America in Chicago will host Out in the Park. Ticket sales for this event are limited to 5000 so guests will enjoy the park filled to only 30% capacity which also means short lines and lots of thrills for The Windy City queer community. Similar to California, the park will be closed to the public from 8 pm until midnight. There will be three DJs spread throughout the park: Chicago’s own DJs Sean Parks and Suave Smooth and DJ RNB from Milwaukee. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Get your tickets here.

The 4th Annual Pride Fest will take place at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts on September 18. This event is held all day at the park, so it is not a private event, though certain Pride Fest-related activities are cordoned off to a private area that requires a special wristband for entry. The event also includes various vendors, outreach booths, and artistic performances so it’s a bit different from the others. There’s an all-you-can-eat lunch with hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, and snacks from 1 to 3 pm. From 3 to 6 pm, attendees are encouraged to go on the rides where various drag queens will be joining them for the chills and thrills. And from 6 to 8 pm there is the Pride Rally and Concert. A portion of the proceeds will benefit charity. Last year’s beneficiaries were Rainbow Soul and KCC, two queer anti-racism organizations. Discounted tickets can be purchased here.

Community building with equal parts thrills, chills, and goodwill! We love to see it!
