It’s Official! Captain Sandy Yawn is Engaged to Girlfriend Leah Shafer!
Just shy of a week until the premiere of Below Deck Mediterranean’s Season 8 on September 25; Captain Sandy Yawn and longtime girlfriend Leah Shafer are officially engaged to get married! We’re fans of the couple, so it comes as no shock that we were extremely excited to hear the good news!
In an interview with E! News, Captain Sandy confirmed that she had proposed to Shafer nearly two weeks ago, and she confessed that she’d been thinking about marrying Leah for years. “I knew from the minute I met her, but the timing had to be right. I wanted to make sure we could truly do life together first,” she said in the interview.
The Bravolebrity went on to share how she planned to pop the question. She said, “Leah wanted the fairy tale, and to me Leah represents elegance,” she added. “I planned a boat ride to a beautiful cove. I had it decorated with flowers with a path to a small table accompanied by three violinists where we could sit and have a small date.”
Captain Sandy couldn’t wait to propose to her, but after they arrived at the cove, she shared her vision list of love she had written and wanted, and then got down on one knew. “Then she said yes! The look on her face was priceless, and my heart exploded! It was filled beyond capacity of anything I could ever imagine,” said Sandy. “Somehow, I feel closer than I did before, and I can’t explain it. There is an energy that I have never experienced in my life. I love her beyond; as Leah says Yawn beyond.”

A flood of congrats and well wishes came from current and former Below Deck castmates including Aesha Scott, who also appeared on Season 2 of Below Deck Down Under, commented, “SOOOOOOO EXCITED GAAAHHH! Couldn’t be happier for you two!!!!! Best Couple!”
Luka Brunton, who appears as the Lead Deckhand on the upcoming season, commented, “Congratulations!”
Of course, Leah commented on the post too, adding, “I love you Yawn beyond baby!”
Sandy and Leah probably won’t have a shortage of offers on where to get married. Kate McCue, America’s first female cruise ship captain who also works for Celebrity Cruises, left a comment that said, “Congratulations!!! Thrilled for you!!! Btw, I would love to marry you both on Beyond! #justsaying”
