Bring Japan to You With Woman-Owned Sakuraco Snack Boxes
Since 2015, Japan-inspired snack box company Sakuraco has been delivering popular treats from Japan, worldwide. Now, you can experience the delights of Japan and its distinct regions, beautifully packaged and conveniently delivered to your door.
In 2015, Ayumi Chikamoto founded Sakuraco with the vision of sharing her love for Japanese culture and snacks with people around the world. Growing up in Japan, Ayumi had always cherished the tradition of afternoon tea and wanted to bring that cultural experience to a global audience.
With a dedicated team based in Tokyo, Sakuraco works closely with local Japanese snack makers, building long-term relationships and sharing their stories and passions. Through the carefully curated boxes, Sakuraco aims to inspire and delight snack lovers while promoting the work of talented small creators.
If you are a fan of Japanese culture and cuisine, you probably already know that the tea ritual is elevated, and the products themselves, even while described as ‘snacks,’ are of the highest quality, meticulously crafted, totally delicious, and exquisitely packaged.
Sakuraco is the perfect gift for the nomad at home, with boxes that may take you from the islands of Okinawa to a Ryokan retreat to the traditions of Tokyo. In the box we sampled, we marveled at the flavors of Hakone, a region we learned was famous for its traditional Japanese sweets including rum raisin vanilla cookie sandwiches. The regions showcased in the snack boxes, along with the items included, are constantly changing. The cookies, teas, and candies are unique to specific regions in Japan, most of which have their own snack specialties, and the boxes on offer change numerous times per year. Their themes may be linked to the seasons or to calendar events, such as the Autumn Moon Festival. Lovely 20-page booklets and souvenirs are included with each gorgeously and thoughtfully assembled box, transporting you to Japan without leaving home. This is something to share with like-minded friends or just for yourself on those days when you’d like a little pick-me-up or a little escape.
Sakuraco just announced its Heart of Ishikawa box, a special edition that not only showcases the flavors of Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture but also supports the recovery of the Noto Peninsula after the devastating earthquake in January this year. This deadly 7.6-magnitude quake severely impacted local communities, including Wajima City, renowned for its traditional artisans and craftsmanship.
The Heart of Ishikawa box features a carefully curated selection of snacks crafted by local artisans, such as sweet rice candy and handmade senbei. These treats, made by makers whose families have preserved these traditions for generations, represent the resilience and dedication of those working to rebuild their livelihoods after the disaster. Sakuraco’s founder, Ayumi Chikamoto, visited the region to personally meet with these artisans, hearing their stories of hope and recovery in the aftermath of the earthquake.
This collaboration with Ishikawa Prefecture aims to spotlight the enduring spirit of the region while providing direct support to local communities. A portion of the proceeds from each box will contribute to the revitalization efforts, helping artisans rebuild their homes, workshops, and lives.
Additionally, subscribers who opt for the prepaid plan can use the code “ARTISAN” to receive exclusive Ishikawa-made items, which may include beautifully crafted utensils like a fork set with a mini plate, a multi-tiered food box, and a Miso soup bowl (items may vary depending on the subscription length). This offers an opportunity for subscribers to not only enjoy delicious snacks but also own a piece of Ishikawa craftsmanship.
By enjoying the snacks in the Heart of Ishikawa box, Sakuraco subscribers are not only savoring authentic Japanese flavors but also playing a part in the Noto Peninsula’s journey toward recovery. Every bite brings subscribers closer to the culture and resilience of this historic region.
Additionally, when faced with gift ideas for the Holidays, the New Year, and even Valentine’s Day, a Sakuraco box can add a thoughtful element of surprise and delight!
