Austria to Host Pink Lake LGBTQ Festival
Wörthersee in Carinthia, Austria is fast becoming one of the top destinations for queer travelers in Europe. The Pink Lake LGBTQ Festival is by far the lake’s top tourist draw each summer despite it also playing host to such notable events as the culinary gathering of See.Ess.Spielen and the yoga festival, Namaste am See.
Wörthersee is Carinthia’s largest lake. It is about 10.3 miles long and 1 mile wide. It stretches from the outskirts of the Carinthian capital of Klagenfurt in the east to the bay of Velden in the west. Situated within the Klagenfurt Basin, its shores are flanked to the north and south by the foothills of the Gurktal Alps and the Karawanks range, all of which are covered with dense forests beyond which you can see the snow-capped peaks of the Alps. These surroundings, in conjunction with the transparent blue-green waters of the lake itself, create a gorgeous vista that needs to be seen to be believed. It’s the perfect idyllic setting for the gay getaway of your dreams!
The Pink Lake LGBTQ Festival will take place this year from August 25 to 28 in Pörtschach, the lakeside resort town on the Wörthersee. The infamous trilogy of parties that make up the festival kicks off on Thursday, August 25 at Leonstain Castle for the Almdudler Almrausch Party. This club night dance party will feature a performance from the sexy lederhosen boys of the Mountain Crew. Dirndl and lederhosen are more than welcome at this event but are of course, not a must.
The next evening, Friday, August 26, is all about fetish gear at club Fabrik. For the first time in Pink Lake Festival history, it’s time to “live your kink!” at the Pink Lake Kinky Club Night! Come dressed in your sexiest vinyl, leather, latex, lingerie, or uniform… the only limits are your imagination.
The Boat Cruise Party, the crown jewel of the Pink Lake LGBTQ Festival, will take place on Saturday, August 27. Three ships from the Wörthersee shipping fleet will be moored together in the middle of the lake, turning them into one big unforgettable party space.
In addition to the club nights, attendees are invited to join the Pink Lake Beach Club during the day from Thursday to Sunday on flower island (Promenadenbad Pörtschach). Hang out on the sunbathing lawn or take a dip in the refreshing turquoise water. Enjoy snacks, drinks, and gentle lounge beats as you recover from the previous night’s shenanigans. Organizers will also provide for a variety of water sports and beach games for your enjoyment should you wish to participate.
