Global Pride events have returned in full force for the 2022 season. Attendance and travel to these celebrations are expected to reach pre-pandemic levels according to Airbnb. Their ranking is based on total nights booked over respective Pride weekends worldwide, looking at bookings made on Airbnb from January to May 2022, with bookings this year hitting a significant milestone. Tens of thousands of nights have already been booked over the top 50 Pride weekends for this summermeaning bookings are on track with numbers not seen since 2019!

According to Airbnb’s announcement, the #1 spot is London! Overall, the UK was well-represented with 7 Pride destinations making the list including London (#1), Edinburgh (#23), Brighton (#36), Glasgow (#39), Bristol (#40), Manchester (#46), and Liverpool (48). Paris, Rome, Los Angeles, and Lisbon round out the top five.

The announcement also uncovers new insights into the LGBTQ+ community from a study conducted by Gay Times. The study, surveying 15,000 LGBTQ+ identifying people, reveals that:

  • Nearly two-thirds of LGBTQ+ respondents embraced travel abroad as restrictions eased throughout the pandemic, making travel a key priority for the community
  • 60% of the community seek out LGBTQ+ experiences while traveling emphasizing the importance of Pride celebrations and destinations showcasing their inclusiveness and diversity.

The economic impact that Pride celebrations can have for Airbnb Hosts was also examined. Collectively, Airbnb Hosts earned more than $76 million over the top 50 pride weekends in 2019, the last in-person Pride celebrations pre-pandemic. And with numbers this year on a level with 2019 bookings, that means Airbnb hosts in these top 50 cities are in for a much-needed and deserved payday.
