SHOWTIME Partners with Ritz-Carlton to Promote The First Lady
In celebration of the premiere of Showtime’s The First Lady, The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C., partnered with the network to bring a truly unique promotional event to the public.
On April 15th the famed D.C. hotel opened its doors for a public open house which included a tour of ‘The First Lady’ Suite. It was a reimagining of the presidential suite where the design was changed to reflect décor from The First Lady series which celebrated the Federal and Neo-Grecian design of the White House and showcased the timeless furnishings of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue that would have been familiar to all three administrations featured on the show.
Props from The First Lady included copies of private letters between Eleanor Roosevelt and her best friend and confidante, Lorena Hickok; Betty Ford’s unprecedented level of transparency about her mastectomy with duplicates of her medical files and hospital wristband; as well as Obama-family replicas including school notebooks, backpacks, and toys.
In addition, the hotel lobby displayed elegant period costumes worn by Viola Davis as Michelle Obama, Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford, and Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt and offered a First Lady-themed cocktail or mocktail in its bars and restaurants.
During the public open house, visitors were able to enjoy a guided tour through the suite and got a peek behind the curtain into the lives of the First Ladies in the series. Multimedia moments including audio, video and behind the scenes clips revealed what it may have been like to live in the White House Residence. Guests were also able to pose for their very own First Lady-style digital portrait.
If you missed out on the D.C. exhibition, no need to worry! Other Ritz-Carlton properties in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York will all feature their own First Lady suites. The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park will be hosting tours of their First Lady Suite this Thursday April 28th from 4-7PM.
The First Lady airs on SHOWTIME Sunday nights at 9PM.
