Thailand Encourages LGBTQ+ Tourism with ‘Go Thai. Be Free.’ Website

If you’re an LGBTQ+ traveler contemplating a trip to Thailand, then you’ll probably be happy to know the Tourism Authority of Thailand launched a website – “Go Thai. Be Free.” – to encourage you to visit their beautiful beaches and more!

Both male and female same-sex sexual activity is legal in Thailand and there are laws protecting us against employment and housing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. However, the flip side is that is same-sex couples and households headed by same-sex couples are not eligible for the same legal protections available to opposite-sex couples, including adoption.

But by launching the “Go Thai. Be Free.” website, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) hopes this initiative will encourage LGBTQ+ people to visit the country and raise its international profile as an LGBTQ+-friendly country.

And looks like they’ve reached out to a few well-known LGBTQ+ travelers and influencers to help out with this ongoing campaign. Our Vacationers of the Week and coupled content creators, Roxanne Weijer and Maartje Hensen, as well as Uwern Jong, editor in chief of OutThere Magazine, are just a few people who have been recruited to show the queer-friendly side of the country.

TAT touts the country as the most LGBT+ welcoming country in Asia. In their “Go Thai. Be Free.” media brief, it states, “We’re proud that the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans community – and all people – no matter how they identify; and whom they love; feel free when traveling Thailand on vacation or holiday. We have something for everyone. Yes, there are LGBT+ events, parties, and nightlife, but beyond that, we offer rich culture, delicious food, unique local experiences, unparalleled luxury, spellbinding getaways, and an experiential break of a lifetime. Come visit us and find out for yourself.”

The Tourism Authority for Thailand also boasts, “we are proud to be one of the only national destination marketing organizations to have created a dedicated website for LGBT+ travelers.”

The new website serves as an LGBT+ travel resource website to inspire LGBTQ+ tourists with stories that will make us want to visit their country.
