These U.S. Airports Will Be the Most Crowded for Holidays 2024
Now that we’re in the final quarter of 2024 and the Holidays are fast approaching, it’s time to start making travel plans. Crowded airports can make travel less than enjoyable—and they can also make you miss your flight and be late for that family gathering. Long lines at check-in and security, combined with the hectic atmosphere, can be downright stressful.
To help passengers plan ahead, a team at Pilot John International analyzed passenger data from the last two months of each year (November and December) over the past five years. Based on this comprehensive analysis of trends, they’ve predicted which U.S. airports will be the busiest during the final four months of 2024.
1. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (Atlanta, GA)
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has averaged 7.07 million passengers over the past five years during the last months of the year, holding onto its title as the busiest airport in the U.S. In 2024, it’s expected to handle an impressive 8.2 million passengers during the final two months.
2. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (Dallas/Fort Worth, TX)
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, a major gateway to Texas and beyond, averaged 5.52 million passengers annually during the last two months of the year from 2019 to 2023. Projections for 2024 show an increase to 6.7 million passengers, indicating significant growth during the end-of-year holidays.

Methodology
To determine which U.S. airports will be the busiest by the end of the year, the research team analyzed data from November through December over the past five years (2019-2023) and predicted passenger numbers for 2024. They then calculated the average number of passengers from 2019 to 2023 in the last two months of each year, combined it with the 2024 prediction, and determined the expected growth rate for this year.
