Celebrate WorldPride Day in Victoria, Australia!
Sydney WorldPride will be the first time the global event will be hosted in a city located in the Southern Hemisphere. Take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime event and consider a trip south to Melbourne, another popular cultural center to experience Australia’s LGBTQ+ scene. With Australia’s WorldPride Day (February 17) approaching, Victoria, Australia is taking to the streets with spectacular events to honor the LGBTQ+ community during the multi-week celebration.
Celebrating in Melbourne
In Melbourne, you can explore a variety of vibrant queer-produced events that are a part of the Midsumma Festival. The 22-day community-driven event starts on January 21 and brings local performers and artists to centerstage. Here are a few highlights below:
- Midsumma Extravaganza: kicking off the Midsumma Festival is a dazzling and exciting show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl featuring sets from comedians and musical performances.
- Each Monday, there will be a new “Crafty Queers” interactive workshop focusing on a new topic, allowing participants to learn new creative skills in a welcoming space!
Take a Trip out of the City
- Gembrook – about an hour and 15 minutes outside of Melbourne – will host the Gaytimes, Australia’s queer music and arts festival from February 17-19, 2023. No matter if attendees want to go camping or glamping, they have the chance to not only hear live music from Aussie music artists on multiple stages, but the festival will also feature workshops, fun and games, cocktail, bars, food truck, yoga, visual arts, and more!
- After the fun in Sydney, extend your stay and head to Daylesford for the Chillout Festival (March 9-12, 2023) to celebrate Pride in Victoria. This is where Queer Country Pride is highlighted through spirited parades, vivacious performances, and educational seminars.
Victoria’s Pride events reflect the prevailing queer population in the Australian state which not only make it the perfect destination for World Pride Day festivities, but the ultimate destination to engage in the thriving LGBTQ+ community.
