Travel Heatwave Humor to Keep You Cool

We’re not going to lie, but this record-breaking heatwave in the U.K. and the U.S. makes us hot and bothered in regions we never thought existed.  We can’t imagine how our queer fam here and abroad survives without Central Air or an AC unit!  Well, I guess this Insta post below gives some clue to what it’s probably like.

But we’re going to adjust our wig, wipe our perfectly coiffed eyebrows, and share some funny memes and “cool” inspiration we’ve spotted on the interwebs to keep your spirits up as well as provide some humor to help you chill out for a bit.

First and foremost, stay hydrated and don’t forget to drink lots of water. We love this idea especially if a bike is your main mode of transportation to and from work. We need good Samaritans like this! Live out your hot gurl summer dreams!

It looks like these hot temps could stick with us for several days. Ugh! Honestly, we’re thinking about all the places we can go to relax and chill! Hmm, what about planning a trip? Get inspired and plan a trip to a travel destination with a cooler climate such as Iceland. We’re getting some inspiration from this old Insta-pic from Couple of Men.

And even if you’re not traveling, maybe you can grab a spray water bottle to keep you glistening and refreshed like Blanche from The Golden Girls.

At Vacationer, we’re game for any excuse to grab a scoop or two of ice cream! So, pop by your local cold confection spot or gelato shop to keep things cool… if only for a few minutes. For New Yorkers, we recommend a stop by the Big Gay Ice Cream shop.

Like our friends @onairplanemode_ on Instagram, if you’re near a body of water (think lake, ocean, pool, etc.), take a dip, snorkel, and stay cool.

Create your own oasis to stay cool! We’re particularly intrigued by Alysse Dalessandro‘s kiddie pool moment below. We love it!

Thinking about opening those blinds while you’re staying in a vacation rental? Think again! Try to keep the curtains or blinds closed to keep things as cool as possible, especially if you have a fan or AC running. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

And if you’re traveling or on the go, you should try to remember to pack your clack fan or have it in hand to serve its true purpose – to make you look fabulous and to keep you cool like Ravi Round the World, who always serves us the best lewks!

Hopefully, we’ve provided a little heatwave levity. But in all seriousness, make sure you stay hydrated and drink water; limit your time outside if possible; close blinds to keep the extra heat from coming into your vacation rental, or while traveling, close the curtains or shades near your seat on an Amtrak train, bus, or plane. And if you don’t have access to air conditioning, try to find local spots and or cooling centers where you can stay cool and where you have access to water if necessary.
