Book Your Spot on the Fabulously Fun Glitter Trail Tour of South Africa

On the Glitter Trail, guests will embark on a 9-day journey to see 13 cities, towns, and villages in South Africa, and it also includes entertaining drag queens and bubbles all day long!

Created by Michael Gladwin of Afrigay Travel, the luxury bus tour will take you through the most exciting parts of the country, starting with an opportunity to explore Urban Johannesburg, its LGBTQ+ heritage, and gay nightlife.  The tour continues southwest towards Cape Town with stops in some of the country’s most charming towns and villages in the Klein Karoo, Garden Route, and yes, also the famous Winelands.

“As a proud South African, and proud of how our tourism industry is embracing the LGBTQ+ community, it is fitting to experience our beautiful Rainbow Nation this way, said Michael Gladwin, founder of Afrigay Travel. “We will see corners of South Africa that are often missed, delving deep into LGBTQ+ stories and adventures that will touch your heart, make you laugh, and help you party until you drop. It promises to be fabulous-ness overload!”

In addition to visiting different cities and villages, this unique tour will showcase South Africa’s diverse and dynamic cultures via adventure, culinary delights, wine tastings, ziplining, fabulous gay parties, and bottomless bubbles. Meanwhile, guests are exposed to some of the country’s hidden LGBTQ+-owned restaurants and experiences, too!

In case you didn’t know, South Africa was the first country in the world to legally protect the rights of LGBTQ+ people and the fifth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage, making it the perfect destination for queer travelers.

“South Africa is the most LGBTQ+ welcoming country on the African continent, and we need to amplify that message, not only for Pride Month but year-round. The Glitter Trail is a fabulous tour to do just that, and we applaud Michael’s creativity for showcasing many of the amazing destinations of our great country,” said Martina Barth, Western Cape Chairperson of SATSA and the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA) representative for Africa.

Barth explains that hospitality is about providing guests with friendly generous reception regardless of how they identify or whom they love. In turn, diverse travelers have a way of transforming the mindset of the people they meet along the way to hopefully grow more tolerant, empathetic, and welcoming.

Barry Hoy, featured as a Vacationer of the Week, and his partner Teraj Allen will also hit The Glitter Trail with Afrigay Travel in September or October. We heard a rumor that one of South Africa’s famous drag queens will host the tour to show off South Africa’s welcoming vibe.

The Glitter Trail has three scheduled departures – Sept. 29 – Oct. 8, 2022; Nov. 10-19, 2022; and Feb 2-11, 2023 – with more planned in the near future. It’s touted as the best gay party South Africa has ever seen, and guests should make sure they pack their party shoes and a great sense of humor for the fun luxury bus tour.
